Gaynor Kavanagh

Until her retirement in October 2015, Gaynor was Dean of Cardiff School of Art & Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

She continues to write, play and muck about with ideas. Her kitchen table, especially in the winter, sees a lot of drawing, making and experimentation with materials. In the spring and summer, her garden sees much of this channelled into it.

She is interested in the ways our senses inform us, anchoring our memories and sense of self. This stems from her research, which is available in her published works. Her many publications include books on memory, the making of histories, and a social history of the First World War.

Gaynor believes that being creative, in whatever form this takes, is fundamental to our well-being and that we are all innately creative in one way or another. The trick to this is living mindfully and in the moment, opening our senses to all that is both around and in us.

She lives in South Wales with (five) cats and a view over the mountains.
