This course will give you practical skills to take back to your family, community and workplaces.
The time we spend together will be supportive and safe for you to explore at your own pace, using examples from your own life. The methods are experiential and built around the needs of the group.
In a nutshell, Nonviolent Communication:
- develops our ability to listen
- transforms blame, anger and criticism
- supports us to resolve conflicts peacefully.
The material covered during the week will be useful whether you want to change the way you communicate at work or home. These methods are successfully used in prisons, families, classrooms and boardrooms. It is a powerful tool for honest yet human-centred feedback; as useful in business as in parenting.
During the week, we will
- present the concepts and tools used in NVC
- introduce you to the steps of the NVC process for use in expressing yourself to others, listening to others and listening compassionately to yourself
- give you sufficient information and practice to start using NVC in your daily life.
We will also include an introduction to the NVC Dance Floors. This is a visual-spatial set of mats, providing a powerful tool to support integration. Topics covered include, Transforming our Anger, Guilt, Shame and Depression - and how to be with others struggling with those emotions; Self-Empathy; Making Life-Serving Decisions and Transforming Regret.
Like learning a new dance, fluency comes gradually, with practice.
This training, designed to respond to different learning styles, involves movement, whole group and small group work and essential integration time with and in nature.
No previous experience is required to attend this course. However, it is helpful to read Marshall Rosenberg’s book ‘Nonviolent Communication – A Language of Life’ in advance.
