Tree Planting Is Back!
Published: Jan 15th 10
Cortijo Romero's Tree Project has already planted nearly 3000 trees, most of which are surviving well. A splendid team of volunteers has also planted an avenue of more mature trees along the banks of the small river near to Cortijo Romero, greatly improving the amenity of the area. In 2010, from November 6th -13th, there will be again be an opportunity to enjoy a cheap holiday at Cortijo Romero whilst helping with the project in a great community atmosphere. The week costs £295 full board and also includes some tai chi and meditation. Click here for booking details.
Four years after we started our project, the local governments for our area also set up their own scheme. Naturally, they could do it on a much larger scale than we are able to, so we were delighted that they took up the challenge. Unfortunately, the contractors they employed did not use the best methods, so that a high proportion of the trees they planted have not survived.
Our project will retain a broader focus and we hope that the organisers of its spin-offf charity, Trevor Taylor and Jordi Jutglar, will continue to innovate and demonstrate new ways of protecting and enhancing the environment.
