Her charity develops accessible musical instruments and repertoire, challenges expectations and forges new progression routes through the creation of great music. By 2018, it will have the National Open Youth Orchestra up and running. http://openupmusic.org
Until October 2015, Gaynor was Dean of Cardiff School of Art & Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She continues to write, play and muck about with ideas, taking inspiration from the landscape and the garden. She is interested in the ways our senses inform us, anchoring our memories and sense of self. Her many publications include books on memory, the making of histories and on the First World War.
Gaynor believes that being creative, in whatever form this takes, is fundamental to our well-being and that we are all innately creative in one way or another. The trick to this is living mindfully and in the moment, opening our senses to all that is both around and in us.
She lives in South Wales with five cats and a view over the mountains.
