Leah Barnett

I have practiced yoga for over 20 years and trained as a teacher with the Inner Yoga Trust in 2003. Initially I taught fellow lawyers and other professionals focusing on stress reduction and relaxation techniques. I recently completed an advanced BWY training course and work therapeutically with individuals who have chronic health issues as well as teaching regular and gentle yoga classes in London.

My approach:
My approach to teaching yoga is to prepare the ground for the individual to begin their journey inward. Students are encouraged to see how working mindfully with the yoga postures and breath techniques can bring them closer to experiencing inner peace and balance in their lives. I use a mixture of traditional teaching methods and encourage students to explore the yoga postures and techniques for themselves and to work harmoniously with what is good for them in any given moment.

My influences:
I draw my inspiration and influence from various teachers including TKV Desikachar, BKS Iyengar and Vanda Scaravelli as well as alternative approaches to movement and body awareness (feldenkrais, chi-gung). I believe that the body, mind and breath are a beautiful landscape for us to explore, enjoy and discover the peace of being.

My previous life:
Previous to qualifying as a yoga teacher I was a human rights lawyer representing clients in the lower courts and delivering training for new recruits on relevant law and procedure.

What I do now:
I currently teach in London and run retreats in the UK and abroad. I also co-deliver the 'Yoga for ME/CFS & Stress Burn Out' training course for yoga teachers in the UK.
