My understanding and practice of art therapy has evolved and transformed to become increasingly systemic and ecologically oriented, inspired and informed by indigenous healing traditions which have art at their core as a connector to nature and holistic wisdom.
I develop and teach holistic, systemic art therapy approaches, which regard creativity as an expression of nature and each individual's health and healing as grounded in the health of the whole ecological field.
Ancient wisdom traditions and current psychotherapy encourage us to see any experience as a potential doorway for developing wisdom; our compassionate witnessing, our pure awareness and a more inclusive, expanded and rooted sense of self and reality.
Visual-plastic arts can provide a 'positive mirror' that can help towards this and art therapy groups offer containing support to risk this adventure.
I have been a Findhorn Foundation Community member since 1996, created Visionary Art modules for the Findhorn Foundation's Arts in Community programme, and contribute to other events and conferences on ecological and spiritual themes.
I have loved taking art therapy into hospitals, prisons, schools, elderly care and adult education, and developing creative-therapeutic methods for community celebrations and professional groups. I also work as a training workshop leader for post-graduate Art Therapy & other professional level courses internationally.
My current roles and research interests all focus on how to work with nature as our therapist, these include:
Co-founder / tutor, International Post-Graduate Ecological Art Therapy training
Art Therapy Consultant for Ecologia Youth Trust
Supervisor / mentor in holistic and trans-cultural art therapy.
The books 'Green Studio' (2016) and
'Environmental Expressive Therapies'
1st Edition (2017) include chapters detailing how I practice art therapy in intimate connection with nature and wildlife, integrating somatic awareness, ecological field awareness, ancient wisdom traditions and walking, into art therapeutic theory and practice and developing these from within a paradigm of interdependence.
I love gardens and gardening and continue to practice part-time as a visual artist, and to publish and perform my poetry.
