In this course we will be working outside, creating pastel paintings of the landscapes and surroundings at Cortijo Romero. Working with quality materials, we will learn how to search out compositions, use balanced and vivid colourings plus many methods of application and mark making. Everyone is welcome on this course, from beginners to practicing artists.
There will be group tuition and guidance at the start of each session, one-to-one assistance during the sessions themselves and a coming-together at the end of each to reflect on our work. Tuition will follow each individual’s direction, with no pressure to work in any way other than at your own pace.
One of the most meaningful aspects of working from life is the sense of calm and peace enjoyed by participants. Drawing and painting allows us to stop and really take in our surroundings in a creative and peaceful way, fitting perfectly with the atmosphere and ethos experienced by visitors to Cortijo Romero.
For sketching, we will use pencils, charcoal and sheets of cartridge and newsprint. For pastel drawing, we shall be using Rembrandt pastels and coloured pastel paper.
We recommend that you bring an A4 pad of cartridge paper, for use as a journal and for making smaller drawings and sketches. Larger sheets of drawing and pastel paper, as well as boards, will be provided.
