Do you have a personal writing project? Are you interested in writing for wellbeing? Or do you simply want to develop your own voice? This week is about what it takes to speak authentically, and what can get in the way.
You’ll do lots of short writing exercises, along with discussion in pairs and in the larger group. You'll draw on poetry and fiction, as well as memoir and observation. You'll explore connections with both the human and natural worlds, and you'll work with metaphor, symbols and visualisations.
You don’t have to see yourself as a ‘writer’ to take part. It’s more about finding the confidence to speak about what really matters to you in the best way for you—because writing from the heart is how we connect best with ourselves and those around us.
Writing From The Heart is a chance to explore what it means to write about what matters most to you—the people, places and events, the thoughts, ideas and feelings, that make you who you really are.
You’ll discover how writing can help you make the inner and outer connections that enable you to find real meaning and speak your personal truths in whatever you have to say—whether you intend it for an audience or simply for yourself.
We use a combination of creative writing and therapeutic techniques to stimulate the imagination, free the words, and overcome possible obstacles to a voice that feels authentically yours.
You’ll find new perspectives, picture things in fresh and vivid ways, remember unexpected moments and visit untold stories. You’ll share writing that brings laughter and tears. You may even surprise yourself!
When we’re free to write from the heart, that’s how we connect best—both with ourselves and with those around us.
The benefits of writing as a practice for wellbeing and for life are a key theme of the week. There will also be opportunities to discuss personal writing projects.
"A feast for the senses, the soul and the psyche. We shared our writing and we shared our hearts.”
“I came away feeling there’s a voice in there worth listening to.”
